There are several types of magnesium that are available in supplements. There are magnesium citrate, malate and carbonate and glycinate. It is commonly believed that magnesium citrate is the best absorbed type. I have used all of these types of magnesium over the years with minimal results. I?m always experimenting with new supplements to see if they are good.

I have tried many types of magnesium and have found the best type to be magnesium glycinate. I noticed a huge difference after a month. Several health issues were resolved after I took this. Magnesium glycinate is a chelated magnesium, so it is very well absorbed.

Minerals are always better chelated, that is bound to amino acids for better absorption, however magnesium glycinate seems to be far better absorbed than even chelated magnesium citrate.

On the topic of calcium, please do not take calcium by itself. Your body needs magnesium to absorb calcium and if you take calcium on its own, it can cause calcium deposits in your body. It is OK, and in fact good, to take magnesium alone. You need more magnesium than calcium.

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) ? An autopsy has determined that accidental drowning caused the death of a toddler whose body was found inside a septic tank behind her home, just hours after being reported missing by her mother.

Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said Tuesday that a preliminary investigation found "no indication of foul play or trauma."

The 2-year-old victim, identified by authorities only by the initials J.C., was reported missing by her mother, Marina Matias, shortly before 5 p.m. Monday. She had been playing in the yard with four siblings.

Search teams found a 3-foot-wide hole in the yard that led to a septic tank, and the Public Works Department was called to pump water from the tank. The girl's body was found inside it around 7:30 p.m.

Toys were strewn about the yard of the ramshackle property on Tuesday, and the front door of the small house sat open. Police tape cordoned off the area where the top of the tank had been covered with dirt. The tank sat just a few feet outside the back door to the home, next to an outbuilding.

Public records listed the property's owners as Catherine and Thomas Feeks of Sunnyside, N.Y. A message left at a number listed under their name was not returned.

A man who said he has rented a room in the house from Matias and her husband said he was surprised that the opening to the septic tank was big enough for the girl, whom he called Jenny, to slip through.

The man, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he said he feared retaliation, said the family is from the Mexican state of Puebla.

He said the father, whom he identified as Erasmo Castro, holds down two factory jobs and that the mother stayed home to take care of their children, including an infant.

Neighbor Richard Castelluci, who has lived next door for nine years, said he thought the family had now abandoned the house. He said it has been rented out to families with children, like other homes in the area.

"It's so sad, you know, you can't bring the kid back," he said.

Estrogen-Only HRT May Reduce Breast Cancer Risk for Women With Hysterectomies

A new study published in Lancet Oncology states that estrogen-only hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may protect a small group of women against breast cancer. The findings of this study are in direct contradiction to multiple other studies that state estrogen can cause breast cancer. Should women consider taking estrogen to prevent breast cancer? The findings of the study indicate they should not.

The study

The latest edition of Lancet Oncology contains an article authored by Garnet L. Anderson Ph.D., titled "Conjugated equine oestrogen and breast cancer incidence and mortality in postmenopausal women with hysterectomy: extended follow-up of the Women's Health Initiative randomised placebo-controlled trial." The article details the results of a follow-up study done on 7,645 women, ages 50-79 years of age, who have undergone a hysterectomy and were using estrogen-only HRT for menopausal symptoms. The results of the study showed that for women with an average risk for breast cancer, the estrogen-only HRT seemed to offer protection against breast cancer when taken over an average time period of 5.9 years.

The Lancet article further states that women in the same group who had a higher risk of breast cancer due to behavioral, genetic or family history did not receive any cancer protection benefits from estrogen-only HRT.

Premarin

The Seattle Times mentions that Premarin was the estrogen-only HRT drug used in the study. Premarin is manufactured by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Inc. On the Premarin website, it states clearly that this drug should not be used if you have had breast or cervical cancers or if you have had a stroke, heart attack or bleeding disorders.

Another opinion

In his article "Oestrogen and breast cancer: results from the WHI trial", author Anthony Howell states "The present results of WHI should be seen in the context of the update of the study in 2011 reporting the effects of estrogen on overall health. No overall difference was noted in participants' global index of health (including cardiovascular disease, thrombosis and embolism, breast and colorectal cancer, hip fracture, and death from all causes). However this null result masks an unexpected but significant interaction with age (p=0?009) with health improvements in young women and health decrements in older women. Young women (50-59 years) taking estrogen were significantly less likely to have coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, and death from all causes, not only with respect to older women but also placebo controls of the same age. The reasons for such an interaction with age deserve further investigation."

Hormone replacement therapy

HRT is used to help women of any age deal with serious symptoms caused by menopause. Sometimes menopause is chemically induced due to chemotherapy or hormone therapy used to treat cancer. Other times, women can be put into menopause due to surgical procedures like a hysterectomy or an oophorectomy (removal of the ovaries).

The official interpretation of the study published in Lancet Oncology states that the "data do not support use of estrogen for breast cancer risk reduction because any noted benefit probably does not apply to populations at increased risk of such cancer." Women should have an in-depth discussion with their physicians about the risks and benefits of estrogen-only HRT before making any treatment decisions.
